Due to snow, NYC’s DJ Empress unable to make Respect LA (02.11)

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

UPDATE- 04:18pm 02.09.10: Due to the “Apocalyptic Snowstorm” that is mauling the East Coast right now, all of the flights from NYC to LA have been canceled, so unfortunately, Empress’ appearance is looking like it will be delayed until future notice. Stay tuned for updated line-up information for this week!

Los Angeles- One of my favorite ladies in the DnB world, Empress, is making a West Coast stop at LA’s weekly, Respect.

She’s been busy in the studio working with her new band in preparation for a new album & tour, but she’s going to be taking a break to come and drop some heavy business for the LA crew.

StatesideSessionsCoverI’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with her since the early days in both of our careers and since day one, Empress has continued to push her sounds every where she goes (from being the 1st American DnB DJ to play at Movement back in ’99 to her “Stateside Sessions” tour in 2003 )  &  rocks crowds from coast to coast.

Those of you in the LA area should definitely make sure to check this one out, Empress is notorious for having exclusive dubs & her production definitely is not to be slept on- she does the damn thing ;-)

Street art legend Banksy makes big screen debut at Sundance

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

For those of us in that walk the line between the streets and the rest of the world, graffiti has a special place in our hearts. For some of us, it’s the sheer rush of getting up on a wall and coming back by to see that tag or having one of your friends call you and say they spotted it. For others, it’s the end-all/be-all ultimate freedom of artistic expression without boundaries or rules.

Still-from-the-Banksy-fil-001From illegally hanging pieces of his art inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC (which stayed put for 3 days until the adhesive started slipping), to the numerous pieces throughout the UK and Europe that grace the most unlikely of places, it becomes obvious from his work that “Banksy” is “C) All of The Above“.

Now he’s taken his art from the galleries & streets to make his debut on the big screen during last month’s Sundance Film Festival.
