Los Angeles- After crushing WMC 2010 and a recent showcase on Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBC 1XTRA show, LA’s bad boy dubstep collective better known as SMOG, are back with another mix of bass-driven goodies courtesy of the folks over at Scion A/V.
The first half of the mix showcases the production talents of the squad while the latter half hands the reigns over to some of the genre’s top remixers. Both hit listeners with a wide scope of sonic palettes for your listening pleasure, with everything from DnB to Dubstep and some that fall somewhere in between…
Miami- PHEW! We made it once again through a week of beats, bass, lots of beer and plenty of bootyshaking good times! One thing was for certain this year, Dubstep is here to stay and the laundry list of events that we made it to is a testament of just that. From Smog vs. Basshead to Dubstep Massive to Dub & Bass 2 and every other event in between, the hard hitting wobbly goodness was pumping out of speakers at almost every venue as you walked down Collins.
Seeing B. Rich and Udachi just absolutely MURDER their sets at Dub & Bass 2 was probably the highlight of the dubstep sets that we got to see, with DZ coming in a close 2nd, hitting the dancefloor with drop after drop of bangin’ tracks. We hear that our friend 12th Planet takes the grand prize for his performance at the Annie Mac DJ party, but unfortunately we missed it, but if any of his past performances are any indicator, then I have no doubt that this holds true!
For all the Junglists- The World of Drum and Bass was by far the best DnB event of the conference, 3 rooms packed with fans of breakbeat culture across the spectrum. The lineup was packed with top notch DJs and MCs, but for us, the 2 standout sets of the night belong to the Digital Soundboy Artist Showcase featuring Shy FX, Breakage & B-traits holding it down on the UK side & 2Cents (DJ Aye~n & DJ Mal) from Compression SF representing the best of the Stateside movement.
We wanted to make it out to Smog Vs. Basshead, Future Sound of Breaks, Techosluts, Bang! Bang! & a ton of other events, but unfortunately couldn’t cover the events and juggle performance schedules, so if any of you out there have reviews/details you think we should include from any of the events from this year’s WMC, please shoot us a note: firstname.lastname@example.org
San Francisco- Tonight is the night. The stage is set. The UK contingency has arrived on US soil and it’s time once again for DnB heads throughout America to welcome The World of Drum and Bass back for another round of raucous good times, heavy basslines and the world’s top DnB & Dubstep talent
From the mundane daily updates to breaking news from around the world, where else can you get such a wide variety of information and slices of the internet that surrounds us?
My boy, reggae producer/emcee Splurt tweeted this one up today, so I have to give him credit for putting me onto these plugins that the folks over at AudioGeekZine.com were kind enough to share with us.
Below is their list of 10 (in no particular order) free 3rd party RTAS plugins they think everyone should have on their system. There are many more out there but these are the ones they use on a regular basis, they are useful and are stable:
Cassette Playa is UK-based Carrie Mundane’s label, known for intense neon graphics inspired by rave culture, techno, Aztec art and science. The collection features a denim jacket, leggings, swimwear, tank tops and fanny pack for good measure!
Words can’t explain how much I love this collection! I’ve been a fan of Cassette Playa for a couple years now so when I heard that they are teaming up with one of my favorite long-time streetwear brands, Stussy, it got me wondering what both of those innovative brands would come up with and I tell ya the result is massive!
San Francisco-Compression SF & Rukkuz Muzik in association with Formation Records are getting ready to set off the 2010 US WODNB Tour in high style next week with an amazing lineup packed full of artists that are sure to bring their A-game and enough diversity to please a wide majority of bassline connoisseurs.
Though the night is going to be featuring a ton of UK-based talent, the lineup of DJ’s from the US is something to pay attention to. With many of them having releases available for sale at major online music outlets that are charting well and getting rotation on both online and broadcast radio here in America as well as across the pond, the Stateside contingency this year is primed and ready to show the world what we’ve been up to over the last 12 months.
If you’ve missed the madness in the past, check out this video from ’08:
1015 Folsom (aka 103 Harriet) is sure to be rammed to the rafters & filled with some seriously heavy bass for your face, so if you haven’t gotten your pre-sales yet, definitely make sure to grab your discount tix here and bring your camera’s, lighters and a case of Red Bull because with the number of killer tunes getting dropped all night, you’re going to need the energy!
If you listen to Mary Anne’s weekly show, then you already know what she’s got in store for the LA massive & Kutz is definitely not to be slept on, so make sure to bring your earplugs & be prepared for Regal D to catch you making your bassface when you least expect it!
