Sublife Recordings: Calculon- “Tunnel Vision”(SBLF003) available 02.25

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

San Francisco- Local Indie DnB imprint, SubLife Recordings, is back with another quality release from their ever-growing roster of artists. This time around,  San Diego’s DJ Calculon makes his SubLife debut with “Tunnel Vision” on the a-side & SubLife head honcho, Lukeino, teams up with The Heights & Equilibrium to hit you with a dose of funky soul known as “All The Time”.

The last few years has seen the West Coast really shine with a ton of production talent based in SF and LA and it’s great to see Cali producers teaming up to crank out great product!  With more and more solid tunes coming from the US/CAN producers, makes me wonder if we may see a North American Drum-N-Bass Awards sometime in the near future..

Aphonic- Polarize (EPR006)

Up and coming artists Aphonic bring some serious heat on their debut release for Elevated Press.

The lead track Boogeyman is a brutal homage to horror. The track sounds like a slasher film. Very minimal by design this half time stomper demands that you lock the doors and hide the children! The eerie soundscape, huge bass, and a piercing synth line moves to a monstrous peak after the main drop.

The flip side literally comes with the polar opposite. Polarize is smooth, cool, and loving. Another half time stepper with minimal vibes this track is truly beautiful.

Touchphonics- Stop Schemin’ (EPR007)

Touchphonics- Always On My Mind (EPR007)

This is a brand new single from Touchphonics on his own Elevated Press imprint.

Stop Schemin’ has been bringing some serious heat to dance floors round the globe. The track intros with a funky Latin swing only to drop into some serious bass heavy goodness. The drums are as funky as they come and the lead sample from Audio Two’s classic “Top Billin’” amplifies this tune to anthem status!!

The b-side comes with a hip hop/dance hall tinge. Always On My Mind takes a vocal sample from Mad Lion for a singsong, feel good tune. A half time glitchy intro drops into some bouncy old school drum and bass rhythms. This release is sure to get bodies moving!

Official DnB Remix for Major Lazer “Cash Flow” available now!

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Last winter, I had started hearing buzz that electro-indie tastemaker Diplo was getting ready to team up with legendary UK producer Switch, to form a “supergroup” of sorts and were getting ready to drop a reggae album.

Flash forward to this Summer and the Major Lazer LP “Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do!” dropped. Featuring guest appearances from Santogold, Mr. Lexx, Vybes Kartel, Jahdan Blakkamore and many other Jamaican dancehall artists, combining dancehall lyrics & the signature sounds from the Mad Decent / Dubsided camps and hitting the masses with what some considered to be the most original LP of 2009.

The lead off single, “Hold The Line” proved to be one of the year’s most heavily remixed tunes (outside of Deadmau5′s “I’ll Remember” and a couple of others), and this really got remixers around the world fired up to get their hands on more of the material to make it accessible to their core audiences.

Fortunately for myself and the production team I work with, we were able to reach out to Diplo & Major Lazer and got granted access to “Hold The Line” as well as a lesser known track off the LP called “Cash Flow” featuring Jahdan Blakkamore.

Jahdan has quickly been building a name for himself throughout the US and abroad in both the dancehall & indie hiphop circles with the release of his much anticipated debut “Buzzrock Warrior” in September of this year.

The blend of his roots reggae voice with the beats off the Major Lazer LP had us dying to get ahold of this one, so without further ado, here’s the OFFICIAL DnB remix of Major Lazer- “Cash Flow” featuring Jahdan Blakkamore:
